Essential Job Duties

This is a 9-month non-tenure track position in the Department of Horticultural Science at North Carolina State University. This position is 100% effort in Academics.

The lecturer will be responsible for teaching horticultural science and landscape design courses in Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters. The primary duties include:

  • Preparing and delivering lectures, assignments and labs.
  • Prepare and administer exams.
  • Lead field trips as necessary and mentor students.
  • Classes will be fact to face and online.
  • The selection of courses include HS 115 – Plant Growth and Development, HS 162 – Landscape Maintenance, HS 242 – Introduction to Small Scale Landscape Design , HS 471 – Landscape Ecosystem Management, HS 272 Landscape Design/Build.
  • Some committee work may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position will be a one (1) year position with the possibility of one (1) year renewal.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • MLA or MS in Horticulture with a concentration in design.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Valid Driver’s License and the ability to obtain an NC Driver’s Licence within 60 days of hire. A valid Driver’s License must be maintained throughout employment.

The position will need to drive independently to Horticulture Field Labs (HFL) and other sites for field trips.
