Position Summary Information

 

Purpose

The Department of Modern Languages & Literatures at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic institution, seeks applicants to teach an Elementary Arabic course(s) during our academic year.

Salary $6,300 per course
Basic Qualifications

Ph.D. (preferred) or M.A. in Applied Linguistics, Arabic Studies, or similar field. Expertise in second language pedagogy in higher education required. (Near) Native proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic and one or more regional varieties. Reading proficiency in Quranic and Classical Arabic is desirable. Evidence of excellence and innovation in teaching and assessment at the university level.

Preferred Qualifications  
Responsibilities

Duties include fulfilling all responsibilities associated with teaching assigned courses, including:
1. Teach basic Arabic language course in fall quarter, including conducting all assigned class meetings and individual conferences with students;
2. Develop syllabi, assign and evaluate student work including exams and written assignments
3. Hold weekly office hours on campus.
4. Assign grades and submit to the Office of the Registrar by the designated deadline.
5. Administer numeric and narrative evaluations to each class as assigned by the chair.
6. Fulfill other instructional or academic duties such as attending faculty meetings or department special events, as may be assigned by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences or the Chair of the Department.
