General Description
The Coordinator, Jr. STEM Academy is responsible for planning and coordinating the diverse array of programs and events under the College’s Jr. STEM Academy, particularly out-of-school-time (OST) programs, summer camps, and other school- based programs. Under the direction of the Director, Pre-College STEM Programs, the Coordinator plans and executes outreach and promotion to students, parents, schools, and community-based programs, teacher/student training, program monitoring and implementation, and assessment. The Jr. STEM Academy is a STEM outreach program for middle and high school students which provides academic year and summer programs for students in Philadelphia and surrounding areas.

This position is primarily located at the West Philadelphia Regional /CATC campus with frequent travel to main campus, other regional centers, and partner schools throughout the city.

To help address broad economic, cultural and political concerns in the city and beyond, the College draws together students from a wide range of ages and backgrounds and seeks to provide the programs and support they need to achieve their goals.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the Jr. STEM Academy’s school-based programming by visiting schools; presenting program information to students, teachers, and parents; and enrolling new participants.
  • Coordinates the STEAM Saturdays program including school outreach, student and teacher recruitment, scheduling, teacher training, program event oversight, and implementing program assessments and evaluations.
  • Coordinates the Jr. STEM Academy OST Program and Jr. STEM Academy chapters at the partner schools and community-based organizations, and the College’s Regional Centers, including school outreach, student recruitment, parent and family engagement, program and event planning and execution, monitoring, assessment, and staff support.
  • Works directly with school staff to plan, problem solve, and monitor student participation in all Jr. STEM Academy programs
  • Creates, reviews, and updates school-based program calendars.
  • Supports program operation of Jr. STEM Summer Camps at the College’s Regional Centers and main campus.
  • Coordinate Jr. STEM Academy activities and workshops.
  • Maintains regular contacts with school-based personnel.
  • Attends staff meetings and professional development activities and assists the Director, Pre-College STEM Programs in the planning of these activities.
  • Monitors OST program and attends evening and weekend activities as needed.
  • Performs duties in a manner consistent with the mission, goals, and core values of the College.
  • Delivers quality customer service to both internal and external constituents in a professional helpful and courteous manner.
  • Maintains sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Any and all degrees must be from a recognized institutional accreditor
  • Two (2) years’ experience in Out-of-School Time and/or academic year enrichment programs, or summer camp programming for K-12 students required
  • Ability to provide quality customer service required
  • Ability to meet deadlines required
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external constituents required
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel required
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends required
  • Ability to maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary or Secondary Education preferred
