Description of Position

The School of Social Sciences includes coursework in the following disciplines:

  • AJS:    Administration of Justice

  • ANT:    Anthropology

  • COM:  Communication

  • ECE:    Early Childhood Education

  • EDU:    Education

  • GEO:   Geography

  • GRN:   Gerontology

  • LAW:    Law

  • PSY:    Psychology

  • SOC:   Sociology

We are currently accepting applications for all disciplines and actively recruiting for the following discipline:

  • Communication - Online 

  • Psychology

Hiring Rate:  $828.00 per load hour beginning Fall 2019.

Teaching assignment may include alternative delivery methods:   in-person, hybrid,  online, day, evening, weekend, and at any Yavapai College campus/center location, per course scheduling.

Unofficial transcripts must be attached when submitting the application. 

Terms of Teaching Assignment Include:

  • Meet and teach assigned class(es) in accordance with course outlines, including specified textbooks.  A course outline is a district-approved document covering such items as course prefix, number, title, description, learning outcomes and content.

  • Develop and submit to the division office a course syllabus and schedule of assignments based upon the approved college course outline prior to the start of class(es).  A syllabus is a learning plan designed by the instructor to inform students about the learning outcomes, assessment requirements, grading criteria, attendance standards, instruction and institution policies and support services.

  • Promptly submit required rosters, grade reports, evaluations, and academic reports; retain student grade records for one calendar year.

  • Follow the same accepted standards of conduct as the full-time faculty as described in applicable administrative procedures which relate to satisfactory service and conduct becoming a faculty member.

  • Attend required instructional related meetings such as:  orientation meetings; department or division meetings; other meetings as required.

  • Attend meetings and workshops as may be necessary to obtain or renew certification or essential licensure requirements.

  • Document the completion of three (3) hours per semester of professional development activities related to the discipline area and student learning.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Employment is on a non-continuing basis, and consecutive teaching assignments do not lead to probationary or continuing faculty status. Teaching assignments are part-time, on a semester basis only and may or may not be continued based on student enrollment and College need.

Minimum Expectations & Requirements

Faculty teaching general education course, or other non-occupational courses that transfer, typically hold a Master's degree or higher in the discipline or subfield. If a faculty member holds a Master's degree or higher in a discipline or subfield other than what he or she is teaching, that faculty member should have completed a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline or subfield in which they teach. (HLC Policy Adopted June 2015).

Degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution.School of Social Sciences:

  Master's degree in Anthropology or Master's degree in a related field with 18 graduate credit hours in Anthropology.  A Bachelor's degree in Anthropology or related field supported by five years of field experience may be considered.

Behavioral Sciences:  Master's degree in Psychology or Counseling, or Master's degree in a related field with 18 graduate credit hours of coursework in Psychological Research and Statistics, Psychological Theories, or Theories of Human Growth and Development.

COM:  Master's degree in Communication or Speech Communication or Master's degree in a related field with 18 graduate credit hours of coursework in Health Communication, Organizational Communication, Mass Communication, or Rhetoric.

EDU:  Master's degree in Education or Master's degree plus 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline to be taught.  Disciplines include: Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Child Development, Special Education/Gifted Education, Dual Language/Multicultural Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Family Studies, Educational Leadership, Educational Psychology/School Counseling, and Educational Technology.

GEO:  Master's degree in Geography or Master's degree in a related field with 18 graduate credit hours in Geography. Disciplines include:  Geography, Physical Geography, Human/Cultural Geography, Urban Geography, Geomorphology, Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Climatology, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Sustainability.

Paralegal Studies:  Law degree or a Bachelor's degree in a related field AND (3) years recent documented work experience, OR, an Associate's degree in Paralegal studies/related field AND (5) years recent documented work experience.

Social Sciences:  Master's degree in Sociology, or a closely related field of Criminology, Ethnic Studies, Family Studies, Gender/Women Studies, Urban Studies and American Studies or a Master's degree in a related field with 18 graduate credit hours in Sociology. Coursework required in Sociological Theory, Social or Behavior Science Research Methods, Social or Behavioral Science Statistics. Two or more of the following are required coursework:  Gender, Race, Social Stratification, Social Problems, Family/Intimate Relationships.

* Community college teaching experience
* Professional experience in a community college/higher education work environment
