Description of Position

The School of Arts & Humanities includes coursework in the following disciplines:

  • ART:     Visual Art

  • ASL:     American Sign Language

  • ENG:    English

  • CRW:   Creative Writing

  • HIS:     History

  • HUM:   Humanities

  • PHI:     Philosophy

  • REL:    Religious Studies

  • SPA:    Spanish

Performing Arts: 

  • DAN:      Dance

  • MUS:      Music

  • THR:      Theater

We are currently accepting applications for all disciplines and ACTIVELY recruiting for the following disciplines:

  • 3-D Fine Art:  Three- Dimensional Design & Jewelry Instructor: Actively Recruiting & Job Assignment to begin Summer 2020

  • Spanish Instructors

  • Vocal Instructors

Hiring Rate:  $828.00 per load hour beginning Fall 2019.

Teaching Assignment may include alternative delivery methods:  in-person, hybrid, online, day, evening, week-end and at any Yavapai College campus/center location per course scheduling.

Unofficial transcripts must be attached at the time of application submission.

Terms of Teaching Assignment Include:

  • Meet and teach assigned class(es) in accordance with course outlines, including specified textbooks.  A course outline is a district-approved document covering such items as course prefix, number, title, description, learning outcomes and content.

  • Develop and submit to the division office a course syllabus and schedule of assignments based upon the approved college course outline prior to the start of class(es).  A syllabus is a learning plan designed by the Instructor to inform students about the learning outcomes, assessment requirements, grading criteria, attendance standards, instruction and institution policies and support services.

  • Promptly submit required rosters, grade reports, evaluations, and academic reports; retain student grade records for one calendar year.

  • Follow the same accepted standards of conduct as full-time faculty as described in applicable administrative procedures which relate to satisfactory service and conduct becoming a faculty member.

  • Attend required instructional related meetings such as:  orientation meetings, department or division meetings,other meetings as required.

  • Attend meetings and workshops as may be necessary to obtain or renew certification or essential licensure requirements.

  • Document the completion of three (3) hours per semester of professional development activities related to the discipline area and student learning.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Employment is on a non-continuing basis, and consecutive teaching assignments do not lead to probationary or continuing faculty status. Teaching assignments are part-time, on a semester basis only and may or may not be continued based on student enrollment and College need.

Minimum Expectations & Requirements

Faculty teaching general education courses, or other non-occupational courses that transfer, typically hold a Master's degree or higher in the discipline or subfield.  If a faculty member holds a Master's degree or higher in a discipline or subfield other than that in which he or she is teaching, that faculty member should have completed a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline or subfield in which they teach. (HLC Policy Adopted June 2015).

Degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution.

School of Arts & Humanities: 

Art History: Master's degree in Art History or Master's degree in one of the recognized fields of Humanities with 18 graduate credit hours or graduate level research or publications in Art History.  Humanities disciplines include: Art History, Classics, Drama or Theatre History, English Language Literature, Religious Studies, Folklore, History, Humanities, Medieval Studies, Modern Languages and Literature, Music History, Philosophy.

English Composition: Master's degree in English or Master's degree plus 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline of English.  These disciplines include: English, English Literature, Rhetoric, Composition, Teaching English, and an MFA in Creative Writing.

English Creative Writing: Masters of Fine Art, Master of Art (in Creative Writing) or a Master of Arts (Literature) plus established publication record in traditional means (not self-published), or book length work (fiction, creative nonfiction, memoir, poetry and/or produced play/screenplay at regional or national level and /or national grant awards) and/or work in a minimum of 3 periodicals each with circulation of 10,000+.

English Literature: Master's degree in English language literature, Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing or Master's degree in one of the recognized fields of the Humanities with evidence of graduate level coursework and/or research or publications in language and literature.

History:  Master's degree in History or a Master's degree in one of the recognized fields of Humanities with 18 graduate credit hours in Historiography, Historical Theory and Methods.

Humanities:  Master's degree in one of the recognized fields of Humanities with evidence of coursework or graduate level research or publications in two of the other recognized fields.  Art History, Classics, Drama or Theater History, English Language Literature, Religious Studies, Folklore, History, Humanities, Medieval Studies, Modern Languages and Literature, Music History, Philosophy.

Modern Languages:  Master's degree in the language to be taught or Master's degree with 18 graduate credit hours of the language to be taught.

Performing Arts:  Master's degree of Fine Art in Performing Arts from an accredited University or Academy, or Master's degree or higher in another discipline with 18 graduate credit hours in the Performing Arts. Applicants may also be considered who can provide evidence of 10 years of professional experience in the discipline to be taught.  This experience consists of but is not limited to, performance records, documentation of grant awards and professional use.  Potential instructors must provide evident of a wide critical and public recognition and a record of teaching.

Philosophy: Master's degree in Philosophy or Master's degree in one of the recognized fields of humanities with 18 graduate credit hours in Philosophy. Humanities disciplines include:  Art History, Classics, Drama or Theater History, English Language Literature, Religious Studies, Folklore, History, Humanities, Medieval Studies, Modern Languages and Literature, Music History, and Philosophy.

Visual Arts: Master's degree in Fine Art in Visual Art from an accredited University or Academy or Master's degree or higher in another discipline with 18 graduate credit hours in Visual Art.  Applicants may also be considered who can provide evident of 10 years of professional experience in the media or discipline to be taught. This experience consists of but is not limited to, exhibition records, documentation of grant awards and professional use of the appropriate skills in the art. Potential instructors must provide evidence of a wide critical and public recognition and a record of teaching.

Official transcripts must be on file before teaching assignment begins.

Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Preference will be given to individuals available to teach in all teaching delivery methods (in-person, hybrid, online, day, evening, and week-end).

  • Community College or other higher education teaching experience.

  • Experience with on-line learning systems such as Canvas or Blackboard.
