Duties and Responsibilities The Veterans Services/Financial Aid Coordinator is responsible to the Director of Financial Aid for the following major areas: 1. To serve as the Veterans Services Officer for veteran students by maintaining adequate files and records for students receiving VA educational assistance and Hazlewood benefits; maintaining liaison between the College and the Veterans Administration and Texas Veterans Commission; conducting veteran outreach and recruiting programs; monitoring veteran student enrollments to see that all registrations are appropriate to their declared degree programs and assisting veterans with individual problems. 2. To serve as the VC representative for applicable Texas Veterans Commission and Veterans Administration audits, program reviews, and annual program approval submission. 3. Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies and procedures that ensure timely processing of veterans educational assistance including updating electronic capabilities in order to provide the highest quality of services to veteran students. 4. Provide veteran affairs publications and information pamphlets, including the updates to the VC catalog and the VC web page. 5. Supervise classified financial aid staff located in the Century City Center, including evaluations, staff development and training. 6. Process Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) applications. 7. Assist with awarding of Third Party Awards. 8. To assist the Director of Financial Aid through the coordination of Financial Aid activities in Wichita Falls. Such coordination will include making available financial aid brochures, loan information, and other necessary financial aid forms; handling financial aid questions from and disseminating information to faculty and staff; assist supervisors in obtaining work-study students and providing contracts and other required personnel paperwork; and receiving and forwarding financial aid paperwork to the Vernon campus. 9. Provide financial aid counseling to prospective students, continuing students and parents in the Wichita Falls area regarding financial aid application procedures, eligibility requirements, college policies, and availability of federal, state, local and institutional financial aid. 10. To exercise care and due diligence to ascertain that all Veteran Affairs and Financial Aid functions are carried out in accordance with federal, state, and institutional rules, regulations, and guidelines. 11. To assist the Director of Financial Aid in maintaining operating systems and/or procedures, which focus on students and facilitate their progress from the time they become an applicant to the completion of their study at VC. 12. To assist in presenting financial aid workshops to various programs, classes, and organizations in the Wichita Falls community. 13. Attend regional, state, and national conferences for training purposes. 14. To function as a team member of the Division’s professional staff in the development and implementation of processes necessary to accomplish the goals and philosophy of that Division and the College. 


One year of full-time or two years of part-time professional work experience in veterans' affairs, financial aid, or related field. Demonstrated experience using a personal computer, familiarity with office software such as Microsoft Office, general understanding of student information systems, and ability to do basic accounting as it relates to veterans related funding. Applicant must have good customer service skills and be able to communicate effectively with students and staff. The ability to multi-task and work with numerous interruptions is a must, along with being detail oriented.


Bachelor's degree required.


Knowledge of veterans' services and financial aid rules and regulations.


This is a full-time position with full Vernon College benefits. Availability is To Be Determined 2020. Salary range is $35,992 - $38,774 annually. Posting closes December 31, 2019.
